Mareep (the Wool pokémon) is a very common mammalian electric-type pokémon. They are bred in massive quantities all over the world for their strong wool that is very effective against electricity; this is why most of the Mareep wool products are bought by electricians working near highly dangerous electrical areas. Mareep are very easy to train when caught on a 'safari farm'. In the wild they are virtually unknown, most have either been caught for farms or live in the mountainous high terrains. Training a farm bred Mareep is very easy, they have a calm temperament and most always listen to orders that do not directly harm them. Many people from foreign regions will come from across the globe to watch the annual Mareep Jolting, which is held in the high mountainous farms of Johto in which thousands of Mareep are brought from around the globe. All the Mareep will herd together, the thousands of Mareep cause friction by rubbing together and eventually they will create a large electrified field around them. It is said that anybody who enters the field will get a jolt of the electricity from the newly developed electrified field, once jolted with electricity the victim will be hyperactive for the next two weeks; they will be able to do many jobs in a short amount of time without tiring. The Mareep Jolting is said to be as joyous to enter or watch as the annual Tauros Run.

Mareep live in herds of up to fifty individuals, the herd will also contain many Flaaffy and occasionally a young Ampharos. The herd will act as one to take down predators e.g. a large herd of these pokémon will all use Thunder Bolt at the same time to scare off or even harm a Ninetales. The younger members of the herd will stay away from the outer edges of the group the herd makes. The young will be suckled until they become old enough to charge electricity through their feet. Mareep do this by drawing electricity from the earth, the then store the electricity in the cheeks. When being used the electric charge will be exerted through the tail at any enemies or rivals.

All Mareep have the natural urge to stay close to other pokémon. It is always wise to train a Tauros or Miltank along with the Mareep because Mareep like to stay close to other farm pokémon. Battling with a Mareep can be tricky at first; Mareep has a kind nature and will not willingly want to do damage to an organism that is not predator or food, but after hard training the Mareep will eventually become used to pokémon battles and can be a great fighter when needed. Although Mareep have a very girly, fluffy look, they are one of the best electric-type pokémon and are a 'must' for all electric-type specialists.

Mareep have a long, shiny tail. The tail can seem touchable but never under any circumstances touch a Mareep's tail or cheeks. The tail and cheeks of a Mareep have a huge amount of stored electricity in them, once your skin comes in contact with the tail or cheeks all that stored electricity will jump to your body, this can cause you to be fried from the inside out. Also every now and then Mareep need their cheeks and tail discharged; you can do this by giving your Mareep a special Thunder Cub. The Thunder Cube is a small metal cube with metal Pikachu ears; the cube will collect the stored electricity from the Mareep as it, every now and again, touches the Mareep's body as the Mareep plays with it. Once the cube is full it will change from silver to bright yellow. Once the cube is full you should give it to the local power station, they will use the stored electricity and give you back the empty cube which can be used over and over again. If the Mareep is not discharged then it will grow moody, unresponsive and most probably begin to resent you. So always discharge your Mareep occasionally so it will stay happy and you will stay happy.
